Message from Fr. Phil

Dear Parishioner,

As you may be aware, today the statewide Grand Jury released its findings after investigating child sexual abuse within six of the eight Dioceses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

However painful, the report underscores the importance of the child safety policies and procedures that we have put in place, and we will continue our commitment to providing a safe environment for all of our children and youth here at the Diocese of Scranton.

Today Bishop Bambera shared a video address with the faithful of our church, and released a statement to the local media. I encourage you to review these materials via the link noted below and also on our website. You may also share them with others, if you choose to do so. I hope these materials will answer your questions about the report. However, I welcome you to reach out to me should you have any further questions. I would be happy to speak with you at your convenience.

Please know that our Priests will is also available to answer any of your questions and concerns.  I am in Ireland as this is unfolding but when I come back the Deacon and I will be able to answer any of your questions.  Also, Fr. Jeff Walsh, Priest Vicar and Fr. Polednak, Vicar for Priests for our deanery can be reached to answer any of your questions.  Our Secretary, Kathleen, has their telephone numbers.

I recognize that this is a difficult time, but we are working hard to bring peace to our people and to restore their trust in the Church. Thank you for your continued support of the Diocese of Scranton.

Let us continue to pray for the victims of sexual abuse and for the good priests who faithfully serve us at the Eucharistic Table.

Sincerely yours,

Father Phil Sladicka, Pastor
